Month of Prayer and Giving Day 10- The Audacity of Gospel Ministry

“Therefore, having this ministry by the mercy of God, we do not lose heart.”
2 Corinthians 4:1 ESV
Being the man that God uses is not without its peculiar challenges and responsibilities. Being in the vanguard of any movement requires more than movement. One needs to know when to move and where. One must grasp when to delegate and deploy, and when to defer and develop until later.
Barry King has been greatly used of God in the UK and beyond. We thank God that an outsider to the UK has indigenised so well and been able to accomplish so much. A church-planting leader requires certainty, tenacity and a good degree of audacity. The very things that so often draw criticism.
Barry knows that he is being used as a co-labourer of God to build Christ’s kingdom. He also knows that a gospel minister will have opposition and discouragements for as long as the devil is out of the lake of fire. But it doesn’t make criticism any easier to handle.
While Christ and his disciples knew what it was to stand alone, Barry rejoices in being called to the pastorate of Dunstable Baptist Church. He has been greatly blessed in the prayerful support of the membership there. Barry testifies to the encouragement this has brought him locally, and in his wider work with Grace Baptist Partnership.
Pray for Barry, amid his intense schedule, that he would give himself fully to the calling he has received. Pray that he would steer evenly through the joys and sorrows of church growth and reformation; not fazed by apparent success or failure but pressing joyfully on in the work he has been given to do.
“Therefore we ought to support people like these, that we may be fellow workers for the truth.”
3 John 8 ESV
