Month of Prayer and Giving Day 14- Retirement or Redirection?

Month of Prayer and Giving Day 14- Retirement or Redirection?

O God, from my youth you have taught me, and I still proclaim your wondrous deeds. So even to old age and grey hairs, O God, do not forsake me, until I proclaim your might to another generation, your power to all those to come.”
Psalm 71:17-18 ESV

When Timothy Reynolds retired from the pastorate of Borough Green Baptist Church he wasn’t quite ready to hang up his boots. So, he and his wife moved to Totternhoe, Bedfordshire to support the work of the new church in nearby Edlesborough. They came into membership and after a brief period Timothy was brought into eldership.

Then came a great personal challenge. He was diagnosed with prostate cancer. He would have a major operation and an extended time of recovery. Though he has made a good recovery so far, those of you who have walked this path will understand when I say it hasn’t been easy.

Even as Timothy was recovering, little did he know that another challenge was awaiting him. Barry King would be invited to take up the pastorate at Dunstable Baptist Church and Timothy would be left as the sole elder at Edlesborough. The church would then invite Timothy to serve as their pastor on a part-time basis for two years.

Timothy testifies to the goodness of God in leading them to the church at Edlesborough. He has been encouraged by the love and kindness of God’s people and still finds it a blessing when someone says they have been helped by his ministry.

One thing Timothy has not done is just reach into a sermon barrel and pull something out week by week to get by. He studies day by day and seeks to bring to the people the things God is teaching him. What better way to spend invest one’s retirement!

Please pray for Timothy as he continues his recovery from prostate cancer. Please pray that his ministry will continue to strengthen the church at Edlesborough. Please pray that the church at Edlesborough will have wisdom in the selection of their next pastor.

Please pray that Christians up and down the land will make good use of their retirement.

“Therefore we ought to support people like these, that we may be fellow workers for the truth.”
3 John 8 ESV
