Month of Prayer and Giving Day 2- Among Those Who Are Perishing

“But thanks be to God, who in Christ always leads us in triumphal procession, and through us spreads the fragrance of the knowledge of him everywhere. For we are the aroma of Christ to God among those who are being saved and among those who are perishing, to one a fragrance from death to death, to the other a fragrance from life to life. Who is sufficient for these things? For we are not, like so many, peddlers of God’s word, but as men of sincerity, as commissioned by God, in the sight of God we speak in Christ.”
2 Corinthians 2:14-17 ESV
What’s the most depressing sermon you have ever heard?
For a lady in attendance at the Lunch Club at Hyde Heath this past Christmas, it was Paul Barton’s gospel message. That kind of criticism would hurt anyone – especially a new preacher.
Thankfully, though, numerous others have made encouraging comments about his preaching in recent months. This has been a real blessing to a man serving in his first ministry post. A real blessing indeed.
You see, Paul Barton has no desire whatsoever to get in God’s way of building His church. He desires rather to be used by the Holy Spirit to have a direct and lasting influence upon the lost in Hyde Heath thus building His church. Any encouragement that he is making headway toward that end is appreciated – greatly appreciated.
Prayer is also appreciated – always! Will you pray that the Lord will help Paul balance his time well between rest, family and work? Will you pray that Paul will benefit from participation in Grace Baptist Partnership training days as well as the Plant Course at London Seminary? Will you pray that he will continue to mature as a man and a minister?
Why not remember the lady who found his sermon depressing as well? May she – and many others in Hyde Heath – come to know and love the only Saviour of sinners.
“Therefore we ought to support people like these, that we may be fellow workers for the truth.” 3 John 8 ESV
