Month of Prayer and Giving Day 28- Standing Firm, Staying Faithful

“Therefore, my brothers, whom I love and long for, my joy and crown, stand firm thus in the Lord, my beloved.”
Philippians 4:1 ESV

I watched a video recently where Bernard Roberts told about the work in which he is involved in Chingford. He described how more than five years ago they began with just a handful. He continued by saying and now we have quite a few more than that.

No attempt at self-promotion. No evidence of pride. No pretentiousness. Just a statement.

Now we have quite a few more than that.

How did it happen? God. He is the One building His Church even when that involves rebuilding His churches. It’s a sovereign act of God. Full stop. End of discussion.

But God employs means – and men – to do His work. Men who stand firm and stay faithful.

There was false teaching that needed to be corrected. There was immorality that needed to exposed. There was spiritual lethargy that needed to be challenged.

No easy task for any man – especially one in his first pastoral charge.

But God helped him. Again, employing means – a supportive wife, a sending church, financial support from various sources, mentors, brothers. They all played – and play! – their role.

Will you pause to thank the Lord for His blessing on the work at Chingford? Will you ask the Lord to continue to help Bernard stand firm and stay faithful? Will you pray for the provision of other leaders both to continue to strengthen the work at Chingford as well as to be sent out from there to serve elsewhere?

Will you pray for other men – seeking to serve the Lord in difficult places – whose names and needs are unknown to me but known to you?
