Month of Prayer and Giving Day 21- Sermons and Servanthood

“For what we proclaim is not ourselves, but Jesus Christ as Lord, with ourselves as your servants for Jesus’ sake.”
2 Corinthians 4:5 ESV

No two ways about it, Hezron Muwowo is a gifted preacher. As the beneficiary of both formal theological training as well as pastoral experience in two local churches, his gifts have been honed and used. The friends at Leagrave can certainly attest to that.

But – at the risk of being misunderstood – it takes more than preaching. The church planter has to be an all-rounder. There is always something to do and the more versatile you are the better.

Sure, it’s nice to have Valerie Coleman or Deborah Smith around to play the keyboard. But it helps when they’re not around for Hezron to be able to pick up a guitar and accompany the congregation as they sing.
No one would argue that it’s not helpful to have someone like David Coleman around to assist with practical matters. But David’s time is split between the work at Edlesborough and the work at Leagrave. Sometimes Hezron just has to get on with it.

Who wouldn’t like to have an experienced open-air evangelist like Steve Burton to help with a weekly book table or a gifted door to door evangelist like Daniel Shwe to assist with neighbourhood evangelism? But what about when they are not around or are serving elsewhere? You can’t just cloister yourself in the study. You’ve got to carry on.
It’s useful to recognise – as Hezron does – that church-planting work is just that – work.

Please pray for this faithful brother as he continues to serve the Lord in Leagrave. Pray that he would continue to see fruit for his labour. Pray that those coming to the services will soon be joining Hezron in the service of the Lord.
Many of you know that the church plant in Leagrave has a time-sensitive financial need. Would you join us in calling on the God of heaven to grant them all the funds necessary to purchase their meeting place in this spiritually needy area.

Sometimes we have to do more than listen to sermons about giving – we need to serve the Lord through our giving for His glory.

“Therefore we ought to support people like these, that we may be fellow workers for the truth.”
3 John 8 ESV
